MANILA: The JFE Systems delegates from Japan, Hideki Kanno and Yoshihiro Misawa, arrived last April 1, 2008 for their two-day business visit in Manila.

Day 1: The delegates were picked up from Dusit Hotel and went to the PSE Tower1 at Ayala Avenue for a discussion with Ayala Systems representatives.

The opening remarks were led by Erwin Locsin, Ayala Systems' President, followed by the Ayala Corp. video presentation.

Subsequently, the two delegates had their talk about JFE and their systems for Toyota. Gina Oris and Ricky Jacinto made a positive impression on the processes mentioned.

Bernie Reyes, on the other hand, discussed some materials on OSS and Ayala Systems' exposure to technology. There were some discussions on the difficulties that JFE is currently facing.

Lastly, Shigeru Koda talked about Incubation Support Services. This involves offshore technical development and support center in the Philippines. The discussion went straight to manpower supplementation, administrative support and office space provisioning and overall operational support that incubation embraces.

After the discussion, the group left for UPITTC early afternoon on the same day.

UP ITTC administers a one-year Certificate Training Program in Information Technology with emphasis on the following specializations: Applications Development, Network Systems, and Mobile Computing and Embedded Systems. Also, UP ITTC operates four computer laboratories: Applications Development Lab 1 and 2, Network Systems Lab, and Embedded Systems Lab.

The delegates, together with the Ayala Systems' representatives, were toured around the UPITTC facility.

The group then headed for UP North Science and Technology Park for a visit. Robert Lotho welcomed and accompanied them on a quick tour around the area.

The development of the UP Science and Technology Park is still on going. Tenants for the first building will include companies in Information Technology (IT) software development and business process outsourcing. Some of the tenants will be companies from the nearby five-hectare Technology Business Incubator (TBI) site looking at expanding. The incubation site is a joint project between UP and the Ayala Foundation, Inc.

Moving on, the party went straight to Ayala Systems' office at Corporate Center where topics about Red Hat, JasperReports, JFE's process, Clustering and off-shore/onsite development were discussed by Ariel Araza.

The day ended with a corporate dinner at Portico1771, Serendra.

Day 2: The delegates, accompanied by Shigeru Koda and Tadaaki Sato, stopped at the BayanTrade office.

BayanTrade's world-class culture is instilled and managed by some of the best minds in the country and the most respected names in the supply chain management industry. This pool of leaders serves as the driving force behind a company that delivers the best knowledge process outsourcing service in the Philippines.

Dante Briones, President and Chief Executive Officer of BayanTrade, gave them a warm welcome and toured them throughout the office.

In the late afternoon, they went to Laguna Technopark, a developer of world-class industrial parks in the Philippines. The company is a joint-venture of three established names in the region: Ayala Land, Inc., Mitsubishi Corporation, and Kawasaki Steel Corporation.

They explored the place and enjoyed a clearer picture of the vastness of the area.

The tour with the delegates was more than just a tour itself. Ideas were explored, points were discussed, and most importantly, communication was opened between Ayala Systems and JFE Systems. The visit was indeed, a start of a growing friendship. We all hope that the delegates had a meaningful time with Ayala Systems here in Manila.
